HOLLINS, Va. — The Salem tennis team claimed its first win (7-0) of the 2024-25 season on Friday afternoon in a non-conference bout with Hollins. Salem capitalized on three straight set wins in singles action and a pair of 6-0 doubles victories to complete the sweep of Hollins. 

One of those two 6-0 doubles victories came from the Spirits' tandem of Daisy Ortiz Mendoza and Chloe Koons, who took down Sash Mingo and Rachel Hull in No. 2 action. The other 6-0 doubles triumph by Salem was when the third seeded tandem of Mariana Faint and Abrielle Eckenroth took down Elizabeth Angelo and Zilina Robinson. 

Salem's No. 1 seeded doubles tandem of Adley Keim and Cymone Crump posted a 6-3 win over Peja Cruise and Kristiahn Foster. 

Faint continued to display her dominance in singles action, providing Salem with the 2-0 lead as she took down Hull in No. 3 action by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Eckenroth was also successful in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Angelo in a clash of No. 6 seeds, providing the Spirits with the third point of the match. 

Koons provided Salem with its fourth point of the match as she posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Arabella Crookshanks as the two collided in No. 5 singles play. Keim made quick work of Cruise in the opening set of No. 1 singles, but the Hollins opponent fought hard in the second set to make for a 6-0, 6-2 final. 

The sixth Salem point came by virtue of a 6-4, 6-1 victory from Crump, who downed Foster in No. 2 singles. Meanwhile, Mendoza battled past Hull in No. 4 singles to help Salem complete its first sweep since taking down Mary Baldwin on April 19, 2024.
