WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Salem tennis team claimed its third win of the season, second in USA South Conference play on Saturday following a 6-1 win over Meredith at the Avenging Angels' Tennis Center.
The Spirits won all three doubles matches, including the No. 1 pair of
Adley Keim and
Cymone Crump, who posted a 6-0 victory over Ellie Osborne and Claire Southern. Salem's
Daisy Ortiz Mendoza and
Chloe Koons fought their way past Cate Reilly and Jo Jablonski to post a 7-5 win.
Mariana Faint and
Abrielle Eckenroth completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 triumph over Kate Jackson and Anna Bittler in No. 3 action.
Keim grabbed her second point of the day in No. 1 singles as she downed Osborne by scores of 6-1, 6-2. Crump was also successful in earning two points for Salem as she posted a 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 win over Southern in No. 2 singles.
Faint prevailed in her singles clash against Reilly by a 6-4, 6-1 margin, providing the Spirits their third win among the Top-3 individuals. Jablonski provided the Avenging Angels with their lone point of the day by defeating Mendoza in No. 4 singles.
However, Koons was able to give Salem a 6-4, 7-5 win in No. 5 singles with a victory against Bittler. The final point of the day came from Eckenroth, who emerged with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 decision against Jackson in No. 6 singles.
