LAURINBURG, N.C. — Just one day after the ribbon cutting that opened its new Beach Volleyball facility, the Spirits beach volleyball team claimed an exhibition victory over Wake Technical CC by a 3-2 margin when the two clashed in Laurinburg, N.C. on the St. Andrews campus. 

Salem's pairing of McKenzie Tullock and Ellie Scherer, who served as the No. 1 pair on the match for Salem, claimed wins by scores of 21-11, 21-19 over Chloe Stein and Gabi Carter, giving the Spirits the decisive point with the come-from-behind second set win. 

"We really didn't know what to expect today going into our first beach tournament," said Salem head coach Barry Rymer. "I am really proud of how hard everyone played and hustled. The team will come away with a lot of ideas on how we can get better at practice from this point forward. I am excited to see how we do tomorrow against some great competition."

The Spirits earned the first point of the day as Molly Enos and Grace Royer battled through three sets to earn a 21-15, 18-21, 15-9 win over the pairing of Skylar Bakowski and Morgan Barnes. However, the team of Mary Barnes and Marlaina Vicente who tied the match at one-all with a 23-21 and 27-25 decision over Salem's duo of Jolina Bun and Maia Johnson

Salem juniors Aspen Bradley and Ella Brameus teamed up for a 21-11, 21-8 win over Wake Tech's tandem of Madison Fisher and Amber Bittner in the quick clash of No. 3's.

Meanwhile, Abby Carver and Olivia Garzelloni posted a win for the Eagles over Anna Rymer and Leah Rymer by margins of 21-19 and 21-16, evening the match at 2-2, which put the decisive point on the match featuring Tullock and Scherer. 

Salem also claimed a win in the exhibition match, which came by virtue of the tandem of Haley King and LindaGrace York
