Salem Beach Volleyball hosted Richard Bland in their home opener, winning both matches 3-2.
Match 1:
Salem 3, Richard Bland 2
Ellie Scherer and McKenzie Tullock kept their momentum from this week rolling, winning in two sets 21-12, 21-17 at the No. 2 spot.
The No. 3 team of Olivia Torres and Leah Rymer dominated once again, defending their home courts 21-13, 21-8.
Taylor Cook and Ariana Noplos secured the winning point in two sets, both ending at 21-18.
The No. 1 and No. 5 seeds both battled, but ultimately fell. Jolina Bun and Sadie Rich bounced back after a 20-22 set one loss to take set two 21-17. Despite the strong comeback, Bun and Rich fell 9-15 in the deciding set at No. 1. Molly Enos and Polly Lennie also played a close match, falling in a close first set 19-21. The No. 5 team even took set two the distance, but were unable to secure the win and ended with a 25-27 score.
Katelyn Miller and Emma Marion closed out match one on a high note, winning their exhibition match in three sets 9-21, 21-19, 15-8.
Match 2:
Salem 3, Richard Bland 2
Scherer and Tullock won with a nearly identical score at the No. 2 spot, prevailing 21-16, 21-12.
Rymer and Torres kept their foot on the gas, winning both sets 21-10 at No. 3.
Enos and Lennie bounced back after their loss in Match 1, winning their contest at No. 5 in dominant fashion. The pair won both sets 21-9 and secured the team win.
The two points for Richard Bland came at No. 1 and No. 4, with Bun and Rich falling 13-21, 19-21 and Cook and Noplos falling 17-21, 12-21.
Miller and Marion won their second exhibition match 23-21, 21-17.
The Spirits will next be in action at the Gaston College Tournament on February 27th-28th where they take on Gaston, Lynchburg, and Stevenson.
