Salem Beach Volleyball took on four teams in a weekend tournament in Conway, SC, going 0-4.
Match 1:
Tennessee Tech - 1-4
Freshmen Katelynn Miller and Taylor Cook played at the No. 2 spot, battling to identical set scores of 16-21.
Leah Rymer and Olivia Torres finished next, playing a strong match No. 4, taking down TTU 21-13, 21-17 for the Spirits sole win of the matchup
At No. 1, Sadie Rich and Madison Bozarth fought hard, but fell 13-21, 12-21.
McKenzie Tullock and Ellie Scherer played a solid match at No. 3, but were unable to outlast TTU. The pair fell 15-21, 8-21.
The No. 5 duo of Jolina Bun and Ariana Noplos took their match the distance, forcing a third set. After falling 16-21 in set one, Bun and Noplos bounced back to win set two 21-16. TTU was able to regain momentum in set three, and ultimately bested the duo 15-8.
Molly Enos and Emma Marion also played an exhibition match, falling 7-21, 10-21.
Match 2:
Morehead State - 0-5
MSU got off to a hot start at the No. 2 spot, taking down Tullock and Miller 21-4, 21-9.
The No. 4 duo of Scherer and Cook were able to force a third set, taking the first set 21-19 before falling in set two 17-21. MSU kept their momentum rolling in set three, winning 15-12.
MSU kept their foot on the gas at No. 1, outlasting Rich and Bozarth 21-8, 21-10.
Bun and Noplos also forced a third set, bouncing back from a 17-21 first set loss to take set two 21-14. After a tight third set, the Spirits were unable to get the higher ground and fell 12-15.
Rymer and Torres played a competitive first set at No. 3, only falling 21-23. Ultimately, they were unable to crack the code, falling in set two 15-21.
Enos and Marion also fell at the No. 6 spot, 6-21, 12-21.
Match 3:
Coastal Carolina - 0-5
CCU started day two off strong, beating Noplos and Cook 21-3, 21-14 at the No. 4 spot.
Bun and Rich battled at No. 2, but fell 8-21, 10-21.
At No. 5, Tullock and Miller were bested 9-21, 7-21.
Scherer and Bozarth played hard at No. 1, but were unable to stop CCU's momentum and lost 8-21, 7-21.
Rymer and Torres played a competitive match, putting up identical set scores of 13-21 at No. 3.
The No. 6 duo of Enos and Marion fell 8-21, 5-21.
Match 4:
University of South Florida - 0-5
Tullock and Scherer paired back up again at No. 2, playing a strong match but ultimately falling 10-21, 11-21.
At No. 4, Bun and Cook took set one the distance, with USF barely squeaking out the 22-20 win. The duo was unable to keep their foot on the gas and fell 6-21 in set two.
Miller and Noplos forced a third set at No. 5, taking set one 21-12. USF was able to find their footing in set two, winning 21-12. After a competitive third set, the Spirits were unable to crack the code, falling 8-15.
The No. 1 duo of Rich and Bozarth were bested 7-21, 6-21 soon after.
Rymer and Torres closed out the weekend for the Spirits, the No. 3 duo falling 10-21, 10-21.
The Spirits will next be in action on March 20th where they take on a rematch with Richard Bland.
