LAURINBURG, N.C. — The Salem beach volleyball team concluded its first weekend of action by splitting Saturday with a win over Spartanburg Methodist (3-2) and dropping a 4-1 decision to host St. Andrews. The Spirits also dropped a 5-0 exhibition clash with the Liberty University Club Volleyball program.

The Spirits brought home their first of three points as the pairing of
Anna Rymer and
Leah Rymer posted a 21-18, 21-12 win over Leilani Campbell and Katherine James. The second Salem point came as
Aspen Bradley and
Ella Brameus took down the Pioneers' combo of Makinnley Smart and Layla VanAernem by scores of 21-15, 21-16.
The Salem game-clinching point came from the dup of
Jolina Bun and
Maia Johnson, who fought past A. Deas and T. Craine by scores of 21-12, 19-21 and 16-14.
One of the two Pioneer wins came from Brantile Price and Hana Vucinic, who defeated
Ellie Scherer and
McKenzie Tullock by scores of 21-13, 21-18. Meanwhile, Brook Noe and Bailey Beck emerged with a 12-21, 21-5, 15-11 win over Salem's tandem of
Molly Enos and
Grace Royer.
Salem also claimed an exhibition win from
LindaGrace York and
Haley King in the match.
Liberty 5, Salem 0 (Exhibition)
Liberty handed Salem its first setback in program history by a 5-0 margin. However, the loss came in an exhibition match and didn't affect the Spirits' overall mark.
Grace Cooper and Brooke Elliott were responsible for one of the Flame points, claiming a 21-15, 21-6 win over the tandem of
Ellie Scherer and
McKenzie Tullock. Gabrielle Olson and Kinley Phillips came through with a 21-12, 21-13 victory over
Anna Rymer and
Leah Rymer for the Flames.
Liberty's pair of Brenna Rae Bentley and Taylor Bates were also successful in a 2-0 win, taking down
Aspen Bradley and
Ella Brameus by scores of 21-12 and 21-13. Averee Kellert and teammate Josephine Malone picked up a point for the Flames (21-8, 21-17) by downing
Molly Enos and
Grace Royer.
Caroline Meehan and Sydney Whitfield posted one of the five Liberty points by virtue of a 21-11, 21-17 triumph against
Maia Johnson and
Jolina Bun.
St. Andrews 4, Salem 1
In their final match of the weekend, the lone Salem win came from the tandem of
Jolina Bun and
Maia Johnson, who walked away with a 21-12, 21-10 win.
Ellie Scherer and
McKenzie Tullock were edged out by scores of 23-21, 21-14 in a clash with St. Andrews Mackenzie Fa'apouli and Kyra Klouzek. St. Andrews' tandem of Davenee McKinney and Emily Hinchliffe emerged in a three-set battle with
Ella Brameus and
Aspen Bradley by scores of 21-17, 17-21, 15-10.
Kyra McKinney and Cayleigh Pellitier picked up a point with a two-set win (21-8, 21-10) over the Salem pair of
Anna Rymer and
Leah Rymer. Meanwhile, Kaley Barger and Hayden Larrimore closed out
Molly Enos and
Grace Royer by scores of 21-12, 21-10.
