WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Salem beach volleyball christened its new complex with a pair of exhibition wins over Wake Tech Community College in the first-ever matches on the campus. The Spirits put together a dominating performance in the 4-1 victory in the first match, battling to a pair of three-set wins. In the second match of the day, which resulted in a 3-2 Salem triumph, the Spirits capitalized on wins by the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 flights to emerge victorious.
The Spirits will look to take that momentum into a pair of matches against Sandhills Community College (exhibition) and Spartanburg Methodist on Friday afternoon in Spartanburg, S.C.
Salem 4, Wake Tech 1
Salem's first seeded pair of
Ellie Scherer and
McKenzie Tullock fought past a hard-charging unit that featured Chloe Stein and Gabi Carter to emerged with a 28-26, 8-21, 15-12 win. However, Wake Tech answered with a point of its own as the No. 2 pair of Olivia Garzelloni and Abby Carver emerged victorious against
Anna Rymer and
Leah Rymer by scores of 21-18, 17-21, 15-8.
The Spirits went onto claim wins in the third, fourth and fifth flights, earning the match win.
Aspen Bradley and
Ella Brameus used wins of 21-12, 21-11 to take down Amber Bittner and Madison Fisher in a clash of No. 3's. Meanwhile,
Jolina Bun and new teammate
Olivia Torres completed a two-set win (21-13, 21-14) against No. 4 Wake Tech pair Skylar Bakowski and Marliana Vincente.
The Spirits also received a point from No. 5 team
Molly Enos and
Grace Royer, who downed Morgan Barnes and Mary Barnes in three sets by scores of 21-11, 18-21, 17-15.

The Eagles' No. 1 pair of Gabi Carter and Chloe Stein avenged their earlier loss to
Ellie Scherer and
McKenzie Tullock by earning a 21-18, 21-16 win in the second match. Olivia Garzelloni and Abby Carver picked up a point for Wake Tech from the No. 2 seed as they posted a three-set win over
Leah Rymer and
Anna Rymer by scores of 16-21, 21-19, 15-11.
The Spirits again relied on a win from No. 3 pair
Aspen Bradley and
Ella Brameus, who posted a two-set win (21-10, 21-15) against the combination of Madison Fisher and Amber Bittner.
Olivia Torres and
Jolina Bun claimed their second win as a unit on the afternoon, taking down Mary Barnes and Marliana Vincente by margins of 21-6, 21-9.
Salem cinched the match with a win from No. 5 as
