WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Squaring off against each other for the second time in the last 12 days, Lynchburg narrowly escaped with a 3-2 victory over Salem on Thursday afternoon when the two teams met at the Salem Beach Volleyball Complex.
The Hornets, who posted a 5-0 win against Salem on March 21st, suffered setbacks in the No. 4 and No. 5 pairings.
Salem's tandem of
Olivia Torres and
Jolina Bun claimed the victory in the No. 4 clash, taking down Parker Lynch and Virginia Zalinski by scores of 23-21, 21-15. That win marked the seventh, a team-high, for the Spirit pair this season.
Molly Enos and
Grace Royer were also triumphant in their No. 5 clash with Lydia Nelson and Jamie Smith. Enos and Royer rebounded from an opening set loss to claim the three-set win by scores of 15-21, 21-11, 15-10, resulting in their fifth win of the campaign.
Salem's tandem of
Aspen Bradley and
Ella Brameus took the first game of their No. 3 battle, but it was Sydney Phillips Jordan Palmer that eventually prevailed by scores of 20-22, 21-15, 15-12.
Lynchburg's No. 2 seeds of Mady Shirey and Kailey Keough emerged with a 21-17, 21-15 win over
Anna Rymer and
Leah Rymer. The same was true of Amanda Trapp and SJ Yanz, who posted a 21-15, 21-14 win against the Salem duo of
Ellie Scherer and
McKenzie Tullock.
In the exhibition clash, Salem's
Haley King and
LindaGrace York closed out a 21-19, 21-13 win over the Hornet combination of Deanna Disinger and Myranda Cummings.
